Wet mattress? Learn how to clean and dry it correctly

Keeping a clean mattress is not always an easy thing, especially if we have young children around. This article will show you useful tips about cleaning and drying a wet mattress.

If you have small children or if you are a clumsy person, one of the best advice is to cover the mattress with a waterproof mattress protection in order to avoid small accidents that can wet the mattress.

When the mattress got wet or stained we should try to eliminate excess fluid immediately. The first aspect that we must consider is removing moisture. Thus, we remove the mattress off the bed, ensuring that we have access to all sides. We need to cover the wet area with a clean and dry cloth to absorb a larger quantity of liquid, gently pressing on the problem area. Repeat the process until the area will remain dry as possible. Kitchen paper towels can also help.

If the mattress was soaked with water, all we need to do is to dry it. If the mattress was soaked with a different kind of fluid we need to clean the stain first. So, we will wipe off the stain after excess fluid will be removed.

One option is to clean the stain with cold water mixed with detergent and use a sponge to clean the stain. You can also use upholstery detergent or soap. Don’t press much on the spot because you risk deteriorating the mattress cover.

Finally, we need to dry the mattress. Ideally, the mattress should be placed in a dry place where it should have enough fresh air. If this is not possible, we should use a fan or a hair dryer.

If you follow these steps correctly, your mattress will keep the same appearance before the accident.
